Paola Tormo

I have been working as a freelance translator and interpreter since 2000, translating, editing and writing texts for law firms, direct clients and agencies. I do all kinds of translating and proofreading, but legal and financial texts make up most of my work. I have extensive experience in coordinating and supervising teams and in managing complex projects.

As a sworn interpreter, I provide my services in all kinds of court proceedings and official procedures, such as marriages and registry and notary procedures throughout Spain. I have provided simultaneous, consecutive and whisper interpreting for public figures, famous sportspeople, diplomats and major politicians.

I have always been interested in languages and, in addition to my two mother tongues (Spanish and Catalan), I am fluent in English and have advanced knowledge of German, as well as some knowledge of Portuguese, French and Mandarin. I am passionate about the world’s languages, cultures and travelling. I lived abroad for a number of years in Ireland, the UK, Germany and China.

I have always fought for the recognition of the profession and for the union and strength of its members. In 2012 I joined APTIC’s governing board as the Head of Communication. I became vice-president of the association from 2014 to 2016 and president from 2016 to 2019. I then retired from the frontline of the association, although I continue to collaborate on occasional projects with colleagues.

I also jointly led APTIC’s membership of and participation in the International Federation of Translation (FIT) and attended FIT congresses and meetings around the world.
